Ian Ayres, noted author of the New York Times bestseller Super Crunchers, will share his insights and expertise on how data driven policy making can help government agencies ask the right bottom line questions, formulate better strategies, and become proactive in smarter targeting of government spending

Ian Ayres is a lawyer and economist, as well as the William K. Townsend Professor at Yale Law School, and a Professor at Yale's School of Management.

He has been a columnist for Forbes magazine, writes for the Freakonomics blog, and has been a commentator on public radio's "Marketplace." His research has been featured on Primetime Live, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and Good Morning America, and in Time and Vogue magazines.

Ayres has published 11 books (including the New York Times bestseller Super Crunchers) and over 100 articles on a wide range of topics. His latest book is Carrots and Sticks: Unlock the Power of Incentives to Get Things Done. In 2010, he also published Lifecycle Investing, with Barry Nalebuff. He is a co-founder of stickK.com, a web site that helps you stick to your goals.

The calls for a leaner government grow stronger everyday. In an era where cutting costs is the top priority, the Office of Management and Budget is leading the initiative to improve efficiency in the Federal government, pushing agencies to use data and technology to evaluate programs and results, track errors, manage billions of taxpayer dollars, and find areas to save money and minimize overlapping functions. Learn how the Obama administration is making data-driven decisions in order to better manage spending, reduce waste and deliver a more efficient and effective government.

On October 13, 2009, the United States Senate confirmed Danny Werfel as the Controller of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). As Controller, he is responsible for coordinating OMB's efforts to initiate government-wide improvements in all areas of financial management, including financial reporting, improper payments, real property management, financial accounting standards, grants management, and financial systems. More recently, Mr. Werfel has taken on an expanded role within OBM, leading the coordination of OMB's efforts in the areas of Federal procurement, information technology, and personnel policy and performance management.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Werfel served in multiple capacities within OMB, including Deputy Controller, Chief of the Financial Integrity and Analysis Branch, Budget Examiner in the Education Branch, and Policy Analyst in the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. Mr. Werfel also served as a Trial Attorney in the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division.

Mr. Werfel is a recipient of both national and local awards from the Association of Government Accountants for his contributions to Federal financial management. He was the recipient of the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service in 2008. Mr. Werfel also served as a member of the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board from 2006 to 2009. Mr. Werfel holds a Master's Degree in Public Policy from Duke University, a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.
