OMB’s Records Directive: SAO Strategy & Solutions Workshop (September 19th, 2013)

Agenda

The recently issued National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) / Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directive on managing Federal records has the stated objective of having all government records digitized by 2019, just six (6) short years.

This Breakfast workshop will provide the attendee, working with their peers, with a basic framework for meeting the objectives of the Directive along with cost savings areas to pay for implementation. In particular, the workshop will focus on the three (3) actions due by the end of this calendar year:

· By December 31, 2013, each agency will develop and begin to implement plans to achieve this transition to managing permanent records electronically;

· By December 31, 2013 , the Senior Agency Official shall ensure permanent records that have been in existence for more than 30 years are identified for transfer and reported to NARA; and

· By December 31 , 2013, Agency Records Officer will work with NARA to identify all unscheduled records; In addition, this workshop will provide a forum for Senior Agency Officials to exchange ideas on meeting the Directive and to develop a network of contacts for benchmarking one another.

This Presidential Records Management Directive Workshop, sponsored by IBM and Millican & Associates, Inc. will provide important training for government Federal executives in approaching the requirements of the August 24, 2012 Directive. IBM is a worldwide leader in providing information solutions and services. Millican & Associates is a recognized leader in Federal information and records management and is currently assisting a major Federal agency in meeting the requirements of the Directive.

IBM and Millican & Associates understand the current budget environment and are providing this training at no charge to Senior Agency Officials. We are also including a special “team” concept where a Senior Agency Official can bring a key management partner – e.g., a CIO SAO might want to bring a partner from the General Counsel.
